The 23rd session of the Executive Board of the Sahara and Sahel Observatory (OSS) took place in Nouakchott on April 24-25, 2018. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Abdeladim Lhafi, High Commissioner for Water, Forests and the Fight against Desertification, and opened by the Minister of the Environment and Sustainable Development of Mauritania, Mr. Amedi Camara, in the presence of the Mauritanian Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Hydraulics and Sanitation. The meeting was marked by the participation of Mr Cheptoris SAM, Minister of Water and Environment of Uganda, as well as of the administrators of member countries, sub-regional, regional and international organizations. The Executive Board adopted the 2017 activities report and financial report and approved the 2018 activities program and budget. It also examined the implementation of the Complementary Action Program, the financial mobilization strategy, and the modalities of preparation of the 2030 strategy which should take into account the Organization’s new orientations at the regional and international level.
The session was ended by a press conference during which the Mauritanian Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, Mr. Amédi Camara, the session Chair, Mr. Abdeladim Lhafi, and the Executive Secretary of OSS, Mr. Khatim Kherraz, responded to the questions of the journalists present at the meeting.
At the request of the OSS Chairman, the next session of the Executive Board will be held in Morocco.
The OSS Executive Board, a decision-making body whose functioning and mandate are governed by the Organization's statutes, has a triple function of implementing the General Assembly’s resolutions, namely validating OSS programs and activities, mobilizing the scientific community and identifying new development partners.
